So I picked up a can of Top Engine Cleaner while I was at the GM Dealer today getting some other parts for my exhaust. I know that I am going to have to do this at my buddies farm, as the smoke from it will probably get my neighbores calling the cops.
What is the best method to introduce the cleaner into the system. The instructions only have carb applications. I think probably the PCV vacuum line on the intake?
I'm know some other guys have done it but can't seem to find there posts on the search page.
The PCV is probably your best bet, or better yet introduce a small tube into the throttle body air boot, then get the "spray" version of Top Engine cleaner and spray it in past the throttle plates. They make TEC in both spray and pour in versions.
Pull the line off your brake booster and use the "sipping coffee method". Hold the end of the tube up to the mouth of the bottle and tilt, not pour, and the vacuum will suck the fluid out. It sounds like someone sipping coffee. This introduces a good mix of air and cleaner the engine can run on. We usually did this using a JB product.
The GM stuff we mixed with gas, put in a pressurized container, pulled the fuel pump fuse and hooked the assy to the fuel pressure schrader valve and ran the engine until the container was empty. Cleans injectors, runners and valves. Running the GM stuff without dilution you are seriously going to smoke.
