I was at the track last Friday waiting for my turn to run. I had the engine off and decided to put the car in diagnostic mode to run the fans and cool it down a bit. When the guy motioned me up to run, I yanked the jumper and started the car without turning the key off first. The car started but would not run right. I thought it might be the IAC (does that every once in a while). I couldn't really tell how the car was behaving because of the deafening beast staging beside me. I went for the burnout and nothing. I managed to back the car out of the way. Now the car would start but would die at the slightest touch of the gas pedal. At any rate, we finally figured out that the car would start when the TB was sprayed with starter fluid but would quickly die when it started looking for fuel. I figured it was probably the fuel pump. I have her home now with 5 gallons of gas in the tank and a fresh fuel filter. She still will not run. After attempting to start the engine, I can press the valve on the fuel rail and fuel comes out. Could I have damaged the ECM by removing the jumper improperly? That was the exact instant that the problem started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you spiked the ECM you will likely have to replace it, however, lets not go there just yet.
You need to measure fuel pressure to see if it's holding as you start the car. Since you have some pressure at the Schraeder valve the FP relay must be OK.
You could also probe an injector wire to see if the injectors are firing as you start the engine.
You might also try the paper clip again to see if it will start in FS mode.
