Default Boring stock throttle body?

Has anyone bored or had bored there stock throttle body to 52mm? I am going to try doing my own. Does anyone know where I can get a set of 52mm butter flies for the throttle body when I'm done?
Thanks, Ray

Do a search here for "dkoldos" in the msg body. He bores & installs sealed shaft bearings as well as 52mm butterflies in the OEM throttle body. And quite reasonable, too.

If you are set on doing it on your own, you'll probably have to get a pair out of a carb in the junkyard. Making your own is difficult, since they are [sort of] oval rather than round, and have beveled edges.

Let me second David Koldos. Very happy with his product, and the work he does on the butterfly shaft is a great idea to prevent high idle problems later on.

Thanks Agent89:

Reboring the throttle body is no BIG EFFORT!!!....However locating parts like Butterflies plates and bearings are somewhat hard...

some tips considering doing your own:

1:Either have the tools or a compentant machinist
2: you must know exactly what to do and when to do it
3: when boring the size of bore cannot exceed 52 mm, usually find the plates first or make your own, then do the bore to match
4: You must plug the egr hole before any boring and eliminate it only if you intend not to use egr!
5: bushings can be replaced instead bearing... in my opion bearings are over kill and the o-ring used to seal some bearing units are prone to failure
6: take your time!!!

This job is not for the average "joe", you must have the proper tools to proceed

the best advice is to learn all you can about this subject before attemping and ask yourself if you can do it,, If the outcome is "NO" i suggest you look to some of the compentant rebuilders mentioned here...Then ask a hole lot more questions about what rebuilder is going the do to your TB....ask about the process. maybe even ask about warranties....(very critical HERE!!)

As it was mention my attempt in rebuilding the TB is close as i wait for bearing and bushing to decise which to install.. i have made my own throttle plates using CNC milling cads...

Good luck!

yes do a search on holley's web site.. there are 52mm plates there that could be used... get plates first then machine bore to fit them.. this must be accurate bore to plate fit..if it isn't .. you will have unstable idle....

Thanks, What about the screw holes for mounting the plate, will they line up with the screw holes on the shaft?

the screw holes in th holley plates are oblong and should fit(this is an assumption).... drop the plates into the bore then fasten them to the cross shaft.. make sure to locked them mechancial...you do not want any loose screws!!!!

plates are here http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...CA/26-100.html and here for 2 1/8" plates http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...CA/26-128.html ....

make sure to have the plates to your procession before boring!!!!!! these plates are not exactly 52mm , but it's equvialent,,, 2".. ther should be 2 to 3 thousandths of an inches clearance between bore and plate circumference..

hi Rich B.

NOT TRUE!!!! THE plates ARE ROUND !!! PERFECTLY ROUND.. and if in doubt measure them !!! I have taken the TBI apart and measured everthing....NO guessing here!!
as for sourcing in junk yard... forget it!! it would be quicker to make your own using a milling machine precsion circle cutter! dah!

That's interesting. I haven't worked on TPI throttle bodies but ever holley and GM TBI I have seen or worked on have eliptical throttle plates. And I'm not guessing either!
