Luckily it isn't my 96. One of my buddy's has a 96 also that has an unhappy radio. The antenna doesn't raise. There is no sound excipt a slight click when you turn it on. I understand it may be a relay. Where is it located and is there more than one. I tried turning mine on and off several times to listen for a click. I hear a slight click that sounds like it is from behind the dash by the instrument cluster near the center. Should we invesigate there? Where else should we check? Is there a troubleshooting flowchart anywhere? I did a search of the forum but came up a little dry.
If the radio and antenna are not working it's probably the clk/ctsy fuse.
Well, that's the way on my 86 bose.
The amp relay would only kill the sound
The antenna relay would only kill the antenna
The clk/ctsy fuse feeds power to the coils in those relays
Here is a little more info. Radio head unit lights and goes through the motions as if all is well. Antenna doesn't go up. speakers thump a little. Sound doesn't come out. Owner says he has checked the fuse and it is good.
Check the CDM box Unit that controls the Bose unit system....
When the CDM goes alot of times all looks well and appears and acts normal at the head unit but you get no sound... and also remember the CDM controls the antenna as well... so it's pointing more and more in that direction.
Its the opti spark of the BOSE system... :D
Its great when it works but when it fails .. Whoa everything goes up in flames!!
Make sure its dry and not damp nor any signs of rust which may point to moisture getting to it.
Ooops sorry the "CDM" is a central controler box that sits in the middle of your whole Bose system.
Think of it as a traffic light or an active Xover that controls all these signals and keeps them flowing in order.
Your speakers ..The power to the Antenna.the antenna itself.... The radio all make its way there .. litterally pluggin into this silver box about 5 inches x 10 inches in size.
location in a coupe ... I'm assuming is the same location as my roadster ... dig under plastic storage compartment that comes out in the rear of the car passenger side .. move the carpeting around.. I found mine behind it hiding in there.
Again this is where it was in mine but I have a Roadster if its in a different location maybe someone w a coupe can chime in.
YEAH it now makes noise like it should! All parts worked fine. After having the head and the CDM tested we found the issue. A small wire that told the CDM to turn on had become corroded and broken. What a pain and what a blessing that it didn't cost a bunch to fix. The guy's wife will be so happy, he may get lucky. Thanls to all for the input.
