Here is my delimma, finally got the vette to a stable idle, but now when I engage the A/C at idle, it stalls out. I have replaced the IAC and still have the problem.
Thanks, its the 88 vette, I have a buyer, but I'm trying to figure this out before I sell it to him. I set the TPS volts to 5.4 and timing to 8 degrees. I kinda at a lost. Idles fine but as soon as I engage the a/c it stalls....HELP
well I hope that's a typo at 0.54 volts for the TPS, and you really ought to set the base timing at the factory 6 degrees- not only for emissions but to avoid any detonation issues for the new buyer. You may also want to disconnect the IAC, make sure the idle is where you want it to be by adjusting the throttle opening screw (on the drivers side of the throttle body?) and then reconnect the IAC plug. The computer should then bump up idle speed when the A/C comes on and problem solved. If it still stalls out- the computer may not "know" that you're turning the A/C on- hence a problem with the sensor or something (however that works).
Djbraxton: I have set the base idle on my 89 a number of times and have the procedure written in a Word document. It is different from the one on the tech tips, mine is directly from the GM Helms manual. This procedure will take you about 1/2 hour. If you want a copy, send me a note to ar1943@charter.com.
