I have a question. I am about to break the car out of the garage for the summer. There is a autocross this weekend and I have a break leak. There was fluid running down the middle of the break booster and it looked like it started at the master cylinder. Where the master cylinder meets the break booster.
The car was like this when I put it away. The breaks work fine as far as I can tell. But they did leak out over time. If I put fluid back in they would self bleed and be fine for driving. I didn’t notice what the problem was till I put the car away.
Is this probably the master cylinder? Any ideas would be great or should I just tear it apart? Would just like to know what I am getting into before I start. I have never done a master cylinder. I have removed a few with a torch over the years. I would not advise that.
It's a bad master cylinder. Mine develpoed the same leak, but also developed a very "soft" pedal. Replacing one is not hard, just a couple of bolts and the brake lines, but the new MC must be bled and then bleed at each wheel after the new MC is reinstalled.
Thanks for the quick replys. Yeah 2 bolts and 2 brake lines no sweat. Question now is should I upgrade it? Is it worth it or is stock plenty?
I don't really know much about them. But bigger is usually better and if I am replacing it anyway...
[EDIT]
I see it would be a good idea to put in a brake bias spring. Might as well with it all torn apart. As for the master cylinder $80 sound about right? Or am I looking in the wrong places.

Well it depends on what you are looking for. I bought a new OEM one from the dealership for about 196 dollars. I know its expensive but I wanted the OEM since I hear the remanufactured ones you get in auto parts stores turn to S**T in no time and you will end up replacing it again.
Just be very carefull. Any presure on the brake booster will cause it to leak loosing your vaccum and booster presure. The booster is even more expensive and difficult to replace. Good luck.
