I'm in the process of replacing my water pump, optispark, plugs, wires, thermostat, radiator cap and cleaning radiator, etc.
I bought a bottle of "28* Below" which is an alternative to anti-freeze that is supposed to lower coolant temperatures and I was going to throw this in the system instead of antifreeze since I'll be doing a lot of autocrossing this summer.
Is this stuff compatible with the LT1? Has anyone heard of it? Is it possible that this stuff could damage my block or radiator or water pump?
I've heard of "40* Below" and Redline "Water Wetter" but I've never heard of the "28* Below" before now. I just want to use something that's safe to use in my car I don't want to damage anything. If anyone has used any of these products and it has worked for you let me know.
thanks,
Joe

I used the stuff before I removed the plastic bags, leaves and grass from between my radiator. Believe it or not, it actually dropped the average temps 10 degrees. I didn't get the full amount advertised but, I made it through a hot Mississippi summer last year. Definately, worth using if you want cooler temps. I believe it was the 28 below. RACE ON!

Re: Anyone using coolant additives? (RUBYREDVETTECARD)
does anyone know if these additives are compatible with the GM cooling system? I just don't want to hurt/damage anything trying to make the car run 10 degrees cooler
I used the 40 below at $23.00 a bottle, 160 thermostat and distilled water at 85 cents a gallon. Here in southern Florida it works great so far. Make sure no debris is up in the radiatior. I found, believe it or not, a childs homework paper up in there, causing me to run warm. And no,,,,,,,no child was up in there......
Re: Anyone using coolant additives? (monkeybusiness)
I bought three gallons of distilled water at $107 gal and the 28 below gallon acts in place of the antifreeze. I'm wondering if I should return my 28 below and get the 40 below.... It's probably the same stuff? =) I was looking at the radiator tonight and there are two leaves and it looks really clean, but I can see how crap can get sucked in - I can reach the two leaves and pull them out without pulling the radiator. =) On the cooling side I bought a new Carter water pump lifetime warranty for $160 and a new 180* thermostat. I'm also going to throw on a new radiator cap to be safe.
On a side note I bought 8 new NGK Iridium plugs and one of the eight is bad right out of the box - probably wouldn't have noticed but pulled them all out and side by side noticed that one only had half of the irridium point ??? lol I'll have to take it back tomorrow and order another one. So much for NGK quality control on their "best" products. My Taylor wires will be here tomorrow .... thanks for all the good advice guys - this forum rocks!

Re: Anyone using coolant additives? (ToyC4)
A couple of the Corvette Gurus out there think it is also a good idea to put in a bottle of Bars Leaks with every collant flush. :smiliedrool: They also say that the upper radiator hose tends to burst more often than the lower and you should also replace it on a regular basis. :)
