Default Auto vs. Manual

Which C4's generally run faster times? I know a person with a auto vert with the 3.07 gears that says it's faster than any 6 speed stock. I think that a 6 speed with a good driver should beat an auto. The auto would be more consistent, but the faster times would be run by the 6 speed in my opinion. The guy with the auto vert also thinks that he will run low 13's very easily. I think that around a 13.7 would be more on target.

Generally a 6-speed will be quicker for a couple of reasons:
First, there is less driveline power loss so more HP reaches the rear wheels and
second, 6-speeds came with 3.45 rear ends so the ratios are better for quick launches.
It all comes down to the driver though. Mojo has pulled mid 12's on a stock LT1 6-speed but I'd say he knows how to drive down the strip!!

Btw, welcome to the forum! :seeya :hurray:

first of all what year does he have? with 3.07 i'm guessing he has 92-96 if his car is a 95 or a 96 car he should be hanging around 13.2. As far as if it can beat a same year lt1 with 6sp he will probably be right most of the time the auto will run a better ET, however the trap speed with that 6sp will probably be a bit more. For example a good run with a late c4 auto with 3.07 would be 13.2 or 13.3 a 6sp's ET will probably be hanging around 13.5 but his mph will the 6sp will be more so the auto shoulf be quicker.

i have a 95 automatic with 3.07 gears and it is 100% stock i got a 13.2 my first time.

Wow! I've got zero experience drag-racing but from what I've read, if you got a 13.2 quarter-mile time and your 0-60ft was over 2.0 then you must have been really flying...

I love my manual 6 ! In my all stock 92 I was in Chicago a couple weeks ago and raced a new Zo6 from a light - I had a full tank of gas and a passenger - we both spun tires and launched at the same time, but I hooked up better and ran a carlength ahead through first and second - when we hit third he missed the gear and I jumped farther ahead then he finally passed me but I was pretty excited to hang with a 405hp Zo6 in my old C4 (58k miles all stock)
I think that an experienced driver can smoke someone who doesn't know what they're doing any day of the week even with 100hp difference

Yeah, it just depends on what you like. You have more control with a stick that an auto. Auto can be just as quick if not faster with the right stall along with other supporting mods. Stick comes down to the driver's skill.

I prefer a stick, ive ran 13.3's on a basically stock car. Muffler eliminators(which are suppose to hurt peformance) and a hypertech are the only mods and I couldnt get any traction. I say you go for the 6 speed, I think they are much funner!

well i have a 95 auto and a 96sp my wife has the 6sp and i have the auto 95. So, i can shed some light here hopefully we have taken both these cars to the track she is into corvettes as much as me  always a +! well my 95 auto convertible got a 13.4 i have ran her 96 6sp at the track the best i got was 13.6 the 95 has 72k miles on it the 6sp 96 as 57k on it so there both fairly low milage cars for the years so they a very strong running so if your asking which is quicker in the 1/4 i would say auto with 3.07 hands down.

Maybe an auto is a hair faster on the strip, but wouldn't you all rather take a 6spd through turns?

My vote is 6spd, of course.

Auto for drags all the way, though the 6spd for everyday would be my choice.
I have an auto and yes I enjoy driving it but I'd rather have a 6spd for around town.
