LT4 cam dowel pin too long???
I知 assembling my engine and have encountered a problem. My dowel pin is about .100 in. too long. The pin itself is sticking out .685 in. which seems to be just about right according the manual I have. The sprockets are all lined up correctly and I知 using a vented opti spark and a cam from Comp Cam.
I need some advice before I cut off the end of the dowel pin.
Thanks
Arnold

You don't say year what motor you have but the GMPP parts book says;
1996 LT1 / LT4 pin extends 0.620 from end , must be pressed in to 0.30 +/_ .01 for LTI and L98 motors

Sorry, forgot to append my signature. I'm putting an LT4 engine together.
I guess I will have to cut off .100 in. which would bring it to about .585 in.
Since everything is put together and I don't want to take everything apart anymore, so I will have to cut the pin.
Unless you know a different way of shortening the pin?

:iagree:
But only on 92-94 style LT1's. The newer opti needs the longer dowel pin and it should be already set at the proper length.

I got one custom ground cam from Comp last year that had a pin that measured over .750" which is way too long. I tried pressing the pin into the cam but it wouldn't move. so in that case I ended up using my die grinder and cut off.

If you are positive it is to long and not already at the correct length, measure twice, cut once. The information on dowel pin length is in the GMPP Catolog. :cheers:

I measured at least 10 times and it is too long. I will have to cut it because it just is not moving using a brass hamer, and since I don't want to damage anything I'll have to cut it. My lenght will be around .575 in.
Thanks for the info guys
