My starter kept clicking when I tried to start it, but every time i started it it would get harder each time. Eventually I feared it wouldnt start again, so I took it in for a new one. I go to put the new one in, and its not working at all. I am positive the wires are hooked up correctly, and I returned the new starter for testing after it didnt work and it tested good :confused: It sounds like the starter is spinning but not engaging the flywheel. What gives??
It sounds like you were not getting enough current to the starter.
There are a copla things you could try (per wiring on an '88 Vette A4):
-Verify continuity on the Blk wire to the battery.
-turn the key to START and verify power to the Ppl wire at the starter;
--if not verify power on the Grn/Wht wire from the Starter Enable Relay (behind center of IP);
---if not verify power at the Grn wire on the Starter Enable Relay (from the VATS Decoder);
--if so check the Transmission Position Switch.
But first off, verify that all connections at the battery & starter are clean and solid.
