I am considering removing the resonators to gain a couple extra ponies? What can I expect? Is this a good idea? Bad idea? Make the car louder? Sound better? Reasonance get out of control?
Running straight pipe it horrible, you will lose low end torque. I did that and did not like it. I put in a Dr. Gas X pipe that make me smile. It sound good and recovered low end torque also.

I took off the reasonator and replaced it with an X-pipe. The resonance is almost gone but I didn't see any power gain.
I also removed the resonator and put in straight pipes. Then I moved on to an X-pipe. The x-pipe is the way to go. If you want to go this route and dont want to spend an azzload of money on a Dr. Gas ask my how. :yesnod:
Will the Dr. Gas x-pipe work in an old 85? I don't know too much about how to route stuff like that, so if it does fit... I want one. I've heard nothing but good things about them!
If you want to do that my suggestion is that you convert the whole exhaust system to something like the late model LT1 cars that have true duals. It is pretty easy to do, and you can purchase the LT1 exhaust hangers from the local dealer. I am in the process of converting a friends 89 L98 car soon with a 3" B&B system.
