radio replacement for C4
Can anyone give me a step by step for a 1990 radio replacement.
I have a friend that needs to pull his radio for repair.
Thanks in advance, any help appreciated.
2) remove the console. There are screws under the cup holder incerts and 2 inside the leading edge of the console (under the lid).
3) pull the console away. there is no need to totally remove it.
4) put the car into low, or, for a manual, 4th, gives more swinging room.
5) below the bottom of the radio plate, there are 2 screws. remove them
6) inside the air duct, there are 2 screws. remove them.
7) there is a spring clip on the left of the radio plate. pop that and the plate should come right off.
8) the head is installed with 4 screws. remove them.
9) pull radio out. release harness. put radio into box and send, or, put radio in trash and continue to remove the rest of the blose crap.
10) reverse for reinstallation.
One thing to add here. You may have a helluva time getting to the antenna cable. In my 92 (and I believe also your 90) the antenna does not plug into the head unit. It plugs into a receiver in the passenger side dash. After trying to snake my hand in from underneath (removing the bottom trim) I ended up removing the entire upper IP pad. It was not hard at all, but it just took some time and some guesswork at where all the fasteners are located. Once the IP was off, the receiver was in plain sight.
Here is the pic of the elusive bugger. It's the silver box in the center of the pic:

Here's another shot from head on. The antenna is the thick black cable coming out from the right. I suppose I could've removed the antenna without removing the IP if I knew where it was, but I also cut power to the receiver and routed it to my new head unit.

You can check out some other installation pics on my never-finished site I started a few years ago:

Hope this helps.
Take your time, plan ahead, and you should be fine.
