This weekend I installed the Delteq stage 1 since I had a very good feeling my optispark was bad. I was having lots of hesitation and pinging issues. The pinging is gone, idle is much improved, hesitation when it is cold (open loop) is gone as well. However, once it starts warming up, I still have some hesitation problems, though no audible pinging. Previously, both would occur at the same time.
I tried unplugging the MAF to keep it in open loop, though it still seemed to act up when the engine got warm, though not as quite bad. PCM tuning is back to stock.
When I hook up my laptop tonight, what would be good to look at? Anything else that would be important to check out?
Re: Delteq installed, still running bad (ninetyfivevette)
When you installed the Delteq system, did you use the original Optical parts that were in the old Opti unit? It could be that the optical shutter wheel is fouled or that the optical eye is going bad if those are the original parts.
I beleive that Delteq has replacement parts to replace those parts.
Re: Delteq installed, still running bad (ninetyfivevette)
Hesitation is usually a power-enrichment problem and not an ignition problem -- although I have seen timing and spark plug gap cause it.
I would look at the throttle position sensor, map sensor, etc.
Re: Delteq installed, still running bad (Tom Piper)
Sounds like an EGR problem to me. If you have a service manual, go through the diagnostic procedure to see if your EGR valve and solenoid are operating properly.
