I am putting a cam in my car along with port and polished heads and intake. Does anyone know if my car will run without reprograming the computer? Thanks, Ray
Ray it really depends on what cam you are going to. And of course what year your car is. For instance the 92/93 LT1 cars are speed density controlled EFI so that means even a LT4 HOT CAM will require tuning to make it run decent. Now if you have a 94/95 LT1 car then definitely the car will start and run fairly well with a HOT CAM, but it will also benefit greatly with a good calibration. This is just an example, if you go with cam larger than a HOT CAM then you can expect it to run worse as you skew the VE of the engine more.
TJ,
I have a 95 LT1 and the cam is bigger than a hot cam. The reason why I am asking is because after I do the work I need to drive it to get it programed. I was woundering if it was going to sart and run long enough to do so.
Thats a pretty healthy cam. Its not quite as large as a Comp 306 cam but its certainly close. The 306 cam is 230/244 on a 112. I hope that you don't have to pass emissions with this cam :) Its going to sound good thats for sure.
No, I don't have to pass emissions. It is a visual here in PA thank god. They want to take all of our fun away.
Luckily, you don't have a '96 or newer. I feel the same way as you do, but its not that bad since its only a visual & gas cap on '95 and older cars. The whole emissions/federal blackmail thing we got to inherit from that blasted Clinton administration is just another abortion from them :U
