Hey everyone just seeing if anyone has any ideas here:
Action : I installed a after market Stereo system with a AMP / capacitor.
Problem: Even after I put a Capacitor, replaced the alt, and put a brand new Battery (Autolite Titanium) in I am still draining the system (Dimming Lights Battery is weak at times)
Question: Is there any Different Battery I could use perhaps a higher Amp and could I use a Deep Cycle Battery? What would be the absolute best I could use if anyone has tackled this problem before Share your ideas please
Sounds like something other than a battery problem, are your battery connections clean? hows the serpentine and tensioner? I had after market stereo installed-no problems :D I use Sears Diehard-love thoughs batterys ;)
Your alternator isn't keeping up with your electrical demand. This is why your battery runs down. You are drawing more current than the alternator can deliver. What you need is a higher current alternator.
An easy way would be to obtain a clamp on dc ammeter and turn everything on in the car you think will ever happen. Then you will have to do a search for an alternator that will easily fit your C4 and is rated at the current you measured. Sears sells a clamp on dc ammeter for $49. Try calling a tool rental place and see if they have one.
The quick question is," how big is your stereo?" If your running 1000+ watts or more than one amp, case closed. You need a bigger alternator and bigger battery.
One forum member kept blowing his alternator, but when asking for advice he forgot to mention he was pushing 2000+ watts. The stock system can only handle so much. :chevy
