Well I got my Jegs catalog and I saw these Flowmaster replacement mufflers and it said that it will increase 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! at the wheels. the parts nuber are 389-9424501L, 389-9424501R.
Is this true? Has anyone have them on?
I would think that there should more mods than just the mufflers to get that power.
What do you guys think?
:skep:

What they didn't say was they also replace the entire OEM exhaust system. No cats and 3" mandrel duals.
Even on a stroker (383/396) you won't see that kind of a RWHP increase.
Re: Get 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! with flowmaster? (Joer350)
Sure....and the check is in the mail and I'll respect you in the morning.... :jester
Be careful with any promo ads; they usually say or mean "up to" the stated performance numbers.
You are absolutely right. If you do a completer exhaust repalcement (LT headers, cat & cat-back) on a late L98 you would likely see 30chp at the wheels, but not from just mufflers or even straight pipes.
Re: Get 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! with flowmaster? (Joer350)
Here is how Flowmaster backs up their claim's! They put it on a ZZ 502/502 HP Gen.VI long block, with stock cat-back LT1 exhaust and dyno test. Then they put on the Flowmaster exhasut and WALA 30 RWHP! I got this answer from flowmaster after sending them a complaint letter about outrageous RWHP claims. Here is a pic of my Flowmaster system for those who will say :bs with no pics!
Re: Get 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! with flowmaster? (Timmy!)
Yeah that is what I tougth it's all lies :bs . Because if that was true then my stock engine would be at a 12% power increase. I am expecting about 10hp. Then if thats the case how they dyno the engine at 240 is that including all the exhaust and pulleys.
Has any one dyno whit these mufflers? How hp was actually gained on a stock engine?
Also why would they put a moded egine to make their claims true, why won't they just say 5% power increase.

Thanks for your input.
I will change my stock mufflers on my 87 with 190K miles. I need some new ones I don't have a digital camera to show how bad they are. But will gain power. Also my cats will be changed.

Re: Get 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! with flowmaster? (Joer350)
Another way companies pad their numbers is to not use peak numbers. If they say it gains 30 horsepower that doesn't necessarily mean peak numbers. If you make more torque for a given RPM you also make more HP for that same RPM. It's possible to make a ton more power without affecting
the peak that much.
Example.. I helped tune an 86 vette with a supercharger and a mild cam, etc. At the car's horsepower PEAK we gained about 30 horsepower just by tuning. A healthy gain for sure, but not all that great. What was a whole lot more impressive was the power that we gained him AFTER his peak. At 6000 RPM's we picked up 111 horsepower! It might as well have been a whole new car.
So what's the point? It also doesn't say anywhere that said gain is at your horsepower peak. It's still not really false advertising though because you do gain that horsepower. If you don't believe in the "Total Horsepower" as opposed to peak horsepower then you're setting yourself up to lose a lot of races.
This isn't to say that their claims aren't exagerrated, but before you go bashing them look at the total picture.
Re: Get 30hp, 36ft. lbs.! with flowmaster? (HeeHaw89)
Honestly, what customer who intends on putting a new Flowmaster exhaust on doesn't know that it won't gain him 30 hp? Unsuspecting customers? More like it gives people a chance to lie about how fast their car is, or how powerful it is. Much like the constant "Raced ___(insert any non-Corvette here) today" or "X vs. Corvette?" that promulgate this board.
