I found the Neapco u-joint for 10.99 at NAPA but the DANA are $31. Not sure about three times the price. I may just go with the Neapco as folks have recommended these as well.
IMHO, you generally get what you pay for. I already sounds like you don't want to be doing this job again. Think "Spicer" for u-joints!

I guess the question is "is there enough room typically to place the half shaft into place without the ability to swing it out from it's normal position". I was able to get it out but I'm hesitant that I may need additional space for the install.

You just need about 1.5-2" of extra length between the spindles for the u-joints to pop into place.

Default Install HalfShaft ... What to remove?

I have had a hell of a time replacing my rear wheel bearings. :mad Last night I had to finally remove a half shaft in order to get the final T55 bolt out. I did this and of course the u-joint caps came of the outside end of the half shaft. I was able to get the half shaft out without removing much of anything. The spring and tie rod are still in place.

1. Should I replace the u-joint while it's out especially since the caps came off?
2. To reinstall will I need to remove more susspension parts? It was tough to get out and I'm thinking it will be impossible to get it in as is.

I had not intended to do any of this, just the wheel bearings, so I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible.

Ideas?

Thanks, Mike

Scorp,

I have printed out you step-by-step manual on replacing the u-joints, very nice work recording the process. I understand it completely, but yes I'm trying to shortcut I guess. I really don't want to pull the main arm, spring and tie rod, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to get the shaft back in without messing up the new u-joint.

I've heard of some people removing less, but on my own car the knuckle just will NOT pull out far enough to get the halfshaft in. You can always put some masking tape over the caps to hold them in place.
