Hey guys I replaced my lock cylinder last fall due to VATS problems and that fixed that problem. Now, today, I just drove up to the house and turned the engine off but the stupid lock cylinder won't turn all the way back to let me pull out the key. Also now the car won't restart and the secruity light doesn't flash when it doesn't start. Now the car is stuck in the driveway and won't restart and won't let me have my key. Is there a majic lube or cure to get the lock cylinder back up to speed? :confused:
Re: Ign. Lock Cylinder Problem - Not VATS (SBNova)
Well I figured the problem out guys. I know that the year is young still but I do qualify for the bone head of the year.
I tried a few things and it still wouldn't start but I had electricity to the dash. Well I figured the igintion was on so I ran a wire from th pos batt terminal to the purple wire in the harness and guess what? The **** thing was in drive.
Guess how I know. When the car fired off the trans engaged and it drove right into the garage. Problem is it tore out the garage door jamb and did a bunch of damage to the car on the drivers side. So now I have a bent vette and a garage door that can't go down.
Steel Blue 91 had it right. Next time I will shift to neutral first so the neutral safety switch can do it's job. You would think that 44 years of age would help out somewhere but all I seem to do is forget the past lessons. Oh well, I'm off the strreets for a while. Thanks for the help. :cry
Dont feel too bad I joined that club a while back. My buddy and me were at the car wash in his '73 Charger washing the car on a Fri. night. Raised the hood, washed everwhere(the car). After we were done we jumped back in and the car wouldnt start. We looked at everthing, cap, coil, battery.Crawled underneath checked the trans. linkage,etc. Turns out he had left it in gear and just shut the off. :rolleyes:

Another funny story;
Years ago my friend had a 72 Buick Skylark. His ignition switch broke somehow and he used to climb under the car and engage the starter with a screwdriver. Well, one day he went to a tire store to have a tire plugged and accidentally left the car in reverse. When he climbed under the car- it started, and PINNED HIM UNDER THE FRONT WHEEL !!!! He said he was there for like 15 minutes while yelling for help until someone noticed him. His exhaust was kinda loud and muffled his cries for help. He had the largest bruise Ive ever seen on his shoulder as a reminder to always put it in park or nuetral.

Yeah when my car first started rolling my instinct was to latch on for dear life. Then I saw where the car was headed and didn't want to be between the wall and the car so I had to just stand there and let it go. I had to look away while it was happening though. Then when it came to rest I had to go find my extra set of keys to get in through the pass door. After I got evrything under control I had to figure out how to get it out of the garage and into the shop without messing up again. I was shaking the whole time. The garage has to be fixed before I can even think about the vette. May be time for some serious mods. :cheers:
