Default Which gear for a good performance

Hi all,

I was wondering which gear to drive with if I want good acceleration and good top speeds...Like say driving sportly on a winding road...Drive or Overdrive ?

Drive... the transmission has a tendency to drop into OD if you let it... fuel economy, don't you know...

I'm asking that cause I am used to manual clutch (I live in France)...
To summarize : I use OD to cruise and D to have fun...Isn't this right?

Definitely use 3rd gear for cruzin the curves.

BTW, if you are handy with a Dremel tool you can cut some steps into your stock A4 shift gate to add shift feel. Then you can up/down shift with more confidence.

There are some pics of my modified shift gate on my site. Now I must use the button to down shift into 2nd or 1st; on up shift there is shift feel as the detent moves to each step. With my mod there is no step between 3rd & 4th but there is the indent stop at 2nd to tell me when I"m in 3rd.

This setup is nice if you like to approach sharp curves in the proper gear for maximum pull comming out.
