The offset of the C5 17" wheels are the same as the 88-later C4 17" (56mm offset) wheels. They will sit about an inch further inside the fenderwells compared to the stock wheels. Adapters will move the wheel further out and cause the wheels to site properly in the wheel well.
AFS makes the ZR-1 style wheels with a specific 38mm offset to properly position the wheel for 84-87 cars. Their Z06 wheel doesn't appear to be available with that 38mm offset.
Adapters are expensive (in the $200 range) but you will need them in order to make the wheel look right. The wheel will however, bolt on without the adapters and if you use a 275/40 tire, there should be no interference in the 86 wheelwell. But without the adapters, it looks strange with the wheel about an inch in too far.
