Greetings to all - newbie Corvette owner here - Have owned my '86 now for almost a year. Recently, my instrument cluster lights died. Along with this, my turn signal (left turn only) became intermittent in operation and my "DOOR AJAR" message does not work for the driver side. Has anyone run into this kind of situation before? :chevy
I recently had some dash lights out and it caused intermittent turn signal failure. Replaced the bulbs and it fixed it. I did unplug and replug in the instrument cluster at the same time in case of a bad connection, but those are pretty good connectors, I doubt that was the problem...
For the Door Ajar issue.
I just had and fixed this same problem on my 86.
Check the little black Door Ajar button on the driver's door to see if it's stuck pressed in. It should be sticking out when the door is open in order to set off the Door Ajar light. Look at how the passanger side one pops out when the door is opened, and depressed when the door closes. If it's stuck pressed in, some WD-40 can help clean it and free it. If it is not stuck, remove the 2 screws, pull it out some, and ground each of the 2 wires(one at a time) with an extra peice of wire. Ground it to the drivers seat metal tracks under the seat. One of them should set the Door Ajar light on the dash. If one does, the problem is in the switch itself. Check to make sure the switch is not binding and staying pressed in. If neither one sets the light, pull the door panel and check the 2 wire harness that goes to it.
