hi everyone, the problem i have is the digital read out for the distance you can travel on the fuel you have in your tank. my read out is stuck on 15 and will not change any ideas on how to fix it or what to look for. thanks .
Readout is controlled by the serial data line from the ECM. Usually, if the ECM is bad, you get nothing. Have you pushed the reset button? Will it show Trip or is only the Range function on the fritz? Does the Instant MPG/Long Term Fuel Avg work? If you have one but not the other, suspect the function switch below the Information Panel. It's a bit tricky to test those switches, but you need to disconnect the dash harness and then measure resistance from the switch with it off and then on. In the off position, resistance should be infinite and on, there should be continuity. If none of the Trip/Range - MPG info work, you can check out the ECM by grounding the diagnostic link and seeing if the Check Engine Light will flash a Code 12. If not, the ECM is suspect, but check continuity or for voltage on the data line from the diagnostic link to the ECM. It's the orange wire, Pin E at the Link and it runs to PIN A8 at the ECM. With the key on, there should be variable voltage of 2 to 5 volts. If that's ok, you can check for the same voltage at the dash, Pin D10. If that's ok, it's probably a bad dash. You can exchange it for a rebuild at a dealership for about $300. You'll need to take your old one with you and remove the odometer for installation into the new one.
thanks SunCr, hit reset switch and seems to be working. the trip odometer worked fine it was just the fuel range that was stuck and not moving. thanks again
