Default Rear Spring Removal

I have seen many posts on how to remove the rear spring with the suspension on the car, however today I removed the suspension from the car. Now that the suspension is removed, what is the best way to unload the tension off the spring to remove? What are the directions to remove the spring?

Thanks in advance! :auto:

Put a jack under the tip of the spring and jack it up till there is no load on the long bolt. Remove bolt and carefully lower spring.

oh... my... the spring should be removed first...

GM makes a special tool that would be my choice at this point... but I bet it's pricy.

The best bet is to remount the suspension back into the car and unload the spring with a floor jack, then remove the bolts.

The GM tool is essentially an isometric device the relieves the spring against itself.

I've done this same thing and found that the spring did not have much load
on it with the whole assembly out of the car. I just took the nuts off the
bolts. Mine was an '85 w/Z51 suspension.
