Default removing trans

My engine is out and was going to remove the trans for a refresh since front seal is leaking. Problem is the two bolts holding rear of trans to support bracket act like they are stripped and are not coming out even though I can turn them. These bolt heads are 15mm so I doubt they are stripped in trans case. I even tried an impact gun and can't get them to tighten or loosen. They just turn rather hard. I can't see or feel any nuts on top as it seems the bolts just thread into trans case. it acts like nuts are turning with bolt but I sure can't feel any nuts around the bracket above bolts. the bracket runs all the way back to the rear end next to the driveshaft. The bracket mounts to side of trans tail housing but the bolts go up from bottom thru bracket into bottom of tail.
Anyone have experience here that can tell me the scoop?

that's the C-beam... and there are bolts up top. you will need to get a wrench up there.

I believe from what I have read that there are nuts on top of those bolts. I understand they are a PITA to remove. Take a lool up there if you can.

Good Luck

I thought it felt like nuts spinning but I sure couldn't feel any. I will check it out soon but tomorrow the spring nationals is where I will be. the fricken $110 service manual doesn't say squat about the c beam. Actually the manual is very lacking on trans removal.

ha I just read the thread for beam plates. Well i sure can relate to how the plates would make removal and install of trans easier cause I can't even feel the dang nuts on top.

Go to ZFdoc.com. He has a very good trans removal section. You need to hold the nut on top from spinning. This is done with a wrench and a vise grip to clamp the wrench to the C beam while you turn the bolt.
Good luck. I just did the clutch on mine and it took a breaker bar and a 3 foot pipe to get those bastard bolt to turn.

When you reinstall be sure to torque them to the factory spec. Over tightening them can snap the tail shaft of the trans. Ditto for the rear of the c beam if you remove it.I have seen many rears and tailshafts busted because of this. You said the manual was lacking info so I thought this may help
