Default I learned this...passing it along.

While driving the vette yesterday, my wife and I noticed it was very warm inside the car. Several times I glanced at the controls to see the "Off" button lit. Well after several hours, I pushed the temperature button blue side down to 60. Viola! No more heat in the car. Just because it says off, you have to lower the temp control. Hmmmm.who new?

Mine has manual climate control. If the slider is over on hot you'll actually get some heat through the vents even if it's off. Almost all cars do this, there is positive pressure in the vents just from the speed of the vehicle.

Our cars have continuous "flow through" air ventilation even when the controls are set to off. I'm pretty sure that the air always passes through the heater core, so it'll be at whatever temperature the controls are set at.

Good tip.

It took me a while to notice this too. Finally figured it out when my radio kept overheating on the seven hour drive from NJ to NC. Turned the temp down to 72 when I turned the heat off and the radio problem disappeared.

I noticed this last week, myself, in my truck. The heat was off, but it was passing hot air through the vents.. I pushed it all the way down, and it got cool! Yep, my truck is a GM, too :smash:

I use that "feature" quite often. Mostly because I hate the A/C being on.

It seems in some great engineers mind, even though it's 50 degrees outside and I set the temp to 71, the farggin A/C still kicks on.

Wish I knew how to defeat that.

that is pretty standand in all GM cars that goes far back.
there is a constant air flow, and you can still control the temperature, cool warm, or hot. there really is NO way to shut it off completely

Yep, both my other car and my Vette do that. I beleive it's due to the air entering the front of the engine. It's more noticeable at freeway speeds.

Don't you just wished the General had a manual vent system for your foot area? My Dad's 41 Plymouth had a neat lever you pushed to open a scoop just aft of the hood, worked great.

Speakin of GM Pet Peeves, how about the annoying extra wipe when you go to shut the wipers
off? That aggravates me to no end and always makes the windshield more messed up..

Actually when set to a cool temperature the heater core area is blocked off completely.
