I went to install my steel single mass flywheel tonight and the stock flywheel bolts are way too long. Does anyone know what bolts I need? The pressure plate bolts were included but there were no flywheel bolts included. Why are aftermarket parts such a PITA?
Re: Flywheel bolts for SPEC single mass flywheel (Trog)
It is not only wierd but it stupid and inconsiderate. I told the guy off and he got pissy with me. If they are not going to include a $10.00 bolt set, then they should at least say "Notice, this flywheel will require new flywheel bolts such as ARP 100-2801. The stock flywheel bolts are too long."

Welcome to the customer service of SPEC... where surley meets incompetence...
Re: Flywheel bolts for SPEC single mass flywheel (dizwiz24)
I think you may be in the lucky minority.
I found out by happenstance from a lady down there that they sold me an "old" design clutch disc. When I called the owner, I got a lot of double talk, and NO satisfaction. Without going into all the details, the thing exploded on me at about 130 mph at Mid Ohio. Almost lost a right foot. The bellhousing is hanging above a door in my Corvette garage as a reminder to only buy PROVEN, high quality, expensive parts. Not just expensive parts whose producer or seller CLAIMS to be the best.
Re: Flywheel bolts for SPEC single mass flywheel (bogus)
My Spec Stage II seems to be working fine so far (I didn't buy it - it was given to me new in box when I bought the car). Although I'm a little concerned about the exploding clutch situation.
Re: Flywheel bolts for SPEC single mass flywheel (93Quasar)
my stage II and steel single mass are a perfect compliment to my low 12 second car :yesnod: Although I agree that SPEC should inform it's customers about the bolt situtation, that certainly doesn't mean their products are over priced and poorely built. I do all my own installation and I cannot think of too many installs that didn't require a trip to the parts store......it's just part of the game. I was a little pissed when I learned how poorly my $$$$superram$$$$$ fit......but is it a p.o.s? I don't think so.
Re: Flywheel bolts for SPEC single mass flywheel (R94 LT 1)
Yes as I said my beef with SPEC is that they should note to customers ordering this flywheel for Corvettes that a shorter bolt is required. I spent over $700.00 for the flywheel and clutch and I think new flywheel bolts should have been part of the package. Anyway, I installed the flywheel, clutch, bell housing and transmission last night in 2 hours. I borrowed a neat transmission jack that made the installation a breeze.
I started the car with open headers in the garage to make sure there were not any problems with starter engagement or clutch clearance. All was fine. I asked my wife if she like my new exhaust I just installed!
So for installation I had no problems with the SPEC. I'll let everyone know when I get a chance to road test it.
