Default 1988 - any problems with using scanning software ? 160 or 8192baud?

Last year I downloaded a copy of Win ALDL and installed it in a laptop. The Laptop and cable were verified working on an 84 but won't work on my 88.

I can check sys codes manually with the paperclip method and have tested the relevant plug holes in the ALDL socket, using led's showing there is transmission of some sort active there.

I've verified that the cable is making good connection.

Is anyone with an 88 using Win ALDL or had trouble ?

I'm told that the Win ALDL program works on 160baud, and that from 86 on both 160 and 8192baud were available.

I don't know enough about this stuff, so I'm hoping other with 88 vette's can tell me what scanning software works on their cars.

thanks

S'nut

thanks for the reply spankyellow, that narrows it down a bit, looks like a useful program, wish I could use it.

Jloshotz, thanks for the ttt boost, you're the guy that got his 85 written off by some dumb chicks and now has an 88, so I guess you'd like to know too.

BTW the 88 has different front shocks to any other year (just in case you'd like to know) and I've heard that the chip in the ECM is soldered in, not removeable but haven't confirmed this yet.

NEW INFO - The bit where I said the chip is soldered into the ecm is not exactly correct.. its soldered into the memcal, which is removable from the ecm....

I have now got an 8192baud cable and the Moates software.

I went to connect up last night, hoping everything would go smoothly and at last I'd get some feedback from the ECM.

The new laptop we have doesn't have a serial port !!!! So I can't connect the cable !!!!!

One step forward and two back.

I'd still like to hear from anyone with an 88 that uses the WIN ALDL by Jonas Bylund - it won't work on mine.

go to Scan & Tune plenty of people have had same issues. Also are you remembering to put in the pull-down resistors. I don't know about later models but the 85 required a 10K pulldown between A-B to get any data stream.

For those of you with serial ports, the Belkin F5U103 unit works PERFECTLY. I can reprogram with TunerCat, and log data with DataMaster all via the USB port!

Thanks rsafier, I'll go to scan and tune, I forgot there was a forum for that.
