Default Rear End Type?

What kind of rear ends do stock LT1's have? 10 bolt/12bolt...7.5"/8.5"?...2 series carrier/3 series carrier? What is the best ratio to get for street performance...not looking for fast top end...I AM looking to be quick! Thanks!

A 96 LT1 has a D36 rear, the 2 series is for 2.59 and 2.73 and the 3 series rear is 3.07. You can see where the 2 and 3 come from.

3.73 is probably as low as you should go with the LT1 auto. 3.54 if you drive alot on I-10 or 12.

Youll fly from redlight to redlight, but still stuck in the glut of Baton Rouge traffic.

No Kidding Vader! Thanks for the info. You think $189.00 - $225 is a good deal for 3.73 gears and install kit from Thunder Racing?
