I'm curious if anyone experiances this. After most Autocross events when I restart my car to go home, typically after sitting at least 1 hour after runs, I amost always get the "Check Engine Light" Sunday it came on about 10 minutes into my return trip just easing along about 65mph on the highway.
Every time I get it home then start again and no light  Any ideas? I was wondering if maybe some sensor is getting different information after running the car very hard and then it goes away????? O2 maybe something else with the ECM type system.
There was a procedure to get the set codes from the computer by jumping the pins on the connector. Someone from the forum will hopefully jump in with the info on how to jump the connector. When this is done the check engine light will blink to a pattern to specify if any codes were set.
Re: Check Engine Light after Autocross (Hawaii89vette)
On your 89 you need to take a paper clip and jumper A-B. Those are teh two top towards the right on the ALDL connector under your steering wheel.
Just jumper and turn the car to ON, but don't start it. You will hear your fans run and other noises to tell you your in diag. mode. Then your check Engine light will flash, morse code like. 12 is End of Codes. You will have ot look up the others.
Yes a code will not light the SES light after a restart but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened and is all resolved. It will be stored for the next 50 restarts.
A paperclip would do the same thing as that tool. It would be more useful to you if you got something like an AutoXray scan tool from ebay, or if you have a notebook, make a cable and used one of the free scanning software program. Good advice in the scan and tune section.
I am guessing a code 32. Just a guess with no facts at all but I'll guess EGR or EGR temp switch. I only say this because it is one of the most common ways the SES light is triggered in that year car.
