Re: hypertech power programmer for an LT4 (CaliforniaVette)
I'd save your money. The HPP doesn't give anything in terms of performance. It's only good points are the ability to turn the fans on sooner, and adjusting the speedo if you've swapped rear gear ratios...I personally don't think it's worth it for the price. However, if you want one, I have a friend of mine that may one for an LT4...he sold his car and doesn't need it anymore. If you want I can check, at least it'll save you some $$$.

:iagree: As for selling the one your friend has, it is only good to someone if your friend re-uploaded the STOCK program that is stored into the HPP back into his car. If he sold the car with the HPP program still installed, the unit is useless to any other car. :yesnod:
Re: hypertech power programmer for an LT4 (95AquaC4)
Best thing you can do to your car. Get the HPP and use it to turn your fans early together with the HPP 160 degree T-stat. Your car will never reach 190 degrees anymore. I run 165-170 on the freeway and arroung 180 in the city. Best mod :yesnod:
I'd be interested regardless of what program is in the programmer. I think I can make it work for what I need. I want the fans on EARLIER as my LT4 runs to damn hot for me. plus I figure the new ones are over priced. Seems anything with the word Vette in it is a lot higher than other cars. But a used one seems like a decent deal, especially since I do not expect performance gains, just changes to the car. So if it doesn't get taken or wanted, contact me. I'd like to get a used one even if it has the old VIN in it. Actually I was hoping Glock or one of the other D/FW guys would speak up on having one. I want to get these changes made. Installing the themostat this week. Thx and best of luck.

The unit is VIN coded. If he made ANY changes to his car without changing it back, it is useless. The very first thing the unit does is communicate with the car. It uses the VIN ID to determine a valid vehicle. If it reads a different VIN with someone else's stock program stored, it will not allow ANY changes to your vehicle.
Re: hypertech power programmer for an LT4 (95AquaC4)
I'd rather say I have a possible method to solve this. We have discussed an issue like this for trucks in the past. OK, I stopped right there and called. IT CAN BE done, but at a cost that is to high for what I need. We have sent one in the past and it was 'fixed'. The SN on the unit will determine if and how much it will cost for the 'replacement or trade in' with Hypertech. This unit would run over $200 he said to do this. (It was a LOT LESS in the past) And if one had a good contact at Hypertech, it could be taken care of. Not officially, but it could with the right contacts there. So since this near free fix is gone for me, it's value is greatly deminished to me. I did use to be a code writer (the govt still uses some of my code on some programs they have), but I have ZERO or NO desire to do this anymore. So it is 'not a good value' to me anymore. Best of luck.
Re: hypertech power programmer for an LT4 (Kblack_LT4)
If the other one doesn't come through, I have a LT4 Power Programmer from the '96 I sold. The stock program was restored - in box w/cables, manual, etc. I used it for early fan turn-on & gears before I built the 383. BTW, I also did back-to-back Dyno runs at Xtreme Motorsports to test the difference. On a stock LT4, it yielded 5.5 RWHP improvement and we waited until the temps were identical. :flag

Hey I'm in for this if the price is decent. Please call me or email Kblack@yahoo-inc.com (W) or kblack@geusnet.com (H) 214-782-4290. It'd help me greatly for some minor issues I'm having. Thx Ken

i have bought 1996 corvette 5.7 l and i want to kn ow if it's lt1 or lt4
how could i know that
1. Look for your SPID Label (a white paper sticker with lots of 3-digit numbers/letters (codes) on it). You can find it on the underside of your trunk lid.
2. Make sure the SPID's VIN number matches the VIN of your car.
3. If the VIN matches, look for the engine option code LT1 or LT4.
That's it .
If you can't find your SPID;
A. Go to a GM Dealership.
B. Give them your VIN and ask them to print out the option codes for your car.

Mine came with the car, experimented with it quite a bit and did not notice any improvement. I reverted to the stock tune but with the lower fan settings. So keeping it till I get this motor sorted and a proper tune
