Replaced my TPS last night and now the check engine light is on as is the ASR light and the idle is up to 1500rpm. The "directions" that came with it said the computer would have to relearn the values or whatever. Any ideas how long this takes before it "fixes itself?" I disconnected the battery for 45 minutes after installation and nothing changed. Took out the ecm fuse all night and nothing changed then either. Put the old tps back on and nothing changed. Couldn't get a reading from the original tps and just assumed it was bad cause sometimes the car won't crank as quickly as it used to. It now appears I should have left it alone. Can't find anything in Hanes to help.
Just joined the site. I have a 94 LT-1 6sp. vette.
Well, I checked it at lunch and it seems the connector or wires going into the connector have a problem. Will be changing the connector and that should fix it.
Yeah, that's another thing. The book says .54 +/- .075 and another sheet I have says anywhere between .33 and .99 and states that normal is .70 at closed throttle. I've been testing with the ignition turn on and the engine not running. Any ideas which setting to believe? The prior setting was said to have been off is why I even got started messing with it. Haven't had much luck even getting readings.
The .54V +/- is what you want. Key on, engine not running. On my '85 you set the idle first if you put a new TPS on. What year is your's? Also if your connector to the TPS is messed up, of course, you'll have nothing but trouble.
Those other settings give different throttle responses, but I've not monkeyed with them. Once you start it, it doesn't take but a few minutes to "learn" the basics and settle down. The rest of the learning comes when you drive it.
So you have a '94 LT1. Find one of these guys in a post that has one and IM him. Also do a search here on the forum. Click on "Search" on your left here, input keywords "set TPS" and select archive topics, and then "post headings or bodies". Click on next and happy reading! :yesnod:
Thanks guys. I have modified the tps to make it adjustable, but I think the connector is shorted. Didn't have time to work on it last night and the elect water pump quit working this morning. When it rains, it storms. Will be checking to see if the pump is getting power later today.
