Installing long tubes and a 4:10 gear in a 1995 6spd car and losing 13 rwhp??? car has 25k on it and all plugs are dry.....i am lost.....any feed back would be greatly appreciated....
:lurk: That's odd, it should actually be the opposite. What else have you checked? Bad exhaust leak? Header gasket? Were the gears set up properly?
Another problem could be that ECM is detecting "False Knock" from the additional noise headers create, and could be pulling timing up top. An LT4 knock module would decrease false knock significantly, although you really can't tell if the ECM is pulling timing unless you tap into it, and capture a run.
It might be a good idea to get one anyways since they're so cheap. GM p/n 16214681 and is 28.92 at gmpartsdirect . Elsewhere should be about the same
as in exhaust leaks, the car is buttoned up pretty tight....the gear i bought was from tom's differential out near yourself. the shop that set it up said they had never seen a gear like this and had a tough time setting it up......outside of the gear a long tubes i swaped the plugs out and changed the oil......
You will loose HP on the dyno by going to 4.10 gears over 3.45's. The long tubes should pick you up more though. What you need to know is if the A/F ratio is on target with the headers. If you installed headers and haven't tuned the car again you can actually cost yourself HP because you'll be running too lean.
I was anticipating 3-7 rwhp loss for the gear......the car was at 343rwhp before all the work and now it is at 330. they tuned the car for the A/F mixture tight after the install as well as checked the ECM for knock during a run. all shows up fine. :banghead:
