I'd like to put some Flows on my car to complement the long tubes, but I know I don't want just plain 40 series, what about 40 series delta flows? Or even 50 series delta's. Does anyone have any of these? How do they sound in the car and out?
Well you're well aware of what my car sounds like, along with the resonance it has. They're plain old 40 series. I would be very curious about the 40 series delta flows, but somewhat scared at the same time. 50 series probably won't give you the sound you want on the outside.
I have the new super 40, a couple things they have only single inlet/outlet for now but the case is nice and small so plenty of room to run a dual outlet tip. Let the neighborhood wake up and I will try and get a sound clip. Stay tuned.
Or you could just wake up the neighborhood doing it ;)
Have you heard these in comparison to the regular 40 series? I was looking at these in Jegs or Summit and I didn't see a 2 1/2 inch offset in, center out version, which is what you really need. What did you do in this regard?
They are supposed to make more power than the original 40 series, any thoughts about that?
BTW Brian, why the sudden desire for loud exhaust? It sounds pretty good with the long tubes and OEM catback.
One of the F-body guys had 50 series flowmasters on his car, which made it sound just like a Mustang. :U
I'm guessing you'll probably want to avoid them. I would be interested in hearing the delta flows, or possibly the new super 40's. If the delta flow's sound good, for a little extra money you can get them in stainless :)
Ok, I have the video but cannot upload it to my forum website. There is a discussion on this in the help section, it's forum wide software issue. The video is less than 30MB, I can email it to someone (I guess) to be posted.
About the 50 series, they are a total of 23" long. I showed up at Tony's Custom Exhaust with a pair of Super 40's and a pair of 50's. He didn't even bother to ask and just unloaded the 40's, he knew the 50's wouldn't fit.
I have not heard a direct comparison to regular 40's except that I believe they are what was offered as the Corvette muffler in the early 90's when I had my first 85. Those were LOUD, and resonance sucked. With alot more motor in front of these Super 40's they are quieter inside and out and I lost NO performance as compared to the 3" Dymomax Round Ultra Flo. I ran 11.9 on the low lying MD flatlands at MIR and 12.1 in the mountains at Mason-Dixon on a day it was 30 degrees warmer, my 60's were worse and I later found that my return line was pinched, putting me at like 70psi and a rocker stud coming loose. I lost two tenths, it WAS NOT the mufflers though. That D-max is completely, totally straight through.
I doubt your e-mail will let you hold a 30 mb file. A WKU we can only recieve a 5 mb file at a time and our mail quota is 20 MB. I'm sure insight isn't so kind.
Yeah, my video editing software (from sony, came with camera) froze when I tried to send it. I'll try to shoot again tomorrow, check the camera settings for a smaller file size. :lurk:

Re: Flowmasters (Brian Blum)
I don't know how they'd sound/work with long tubes, but with the stock manifolds and cat setup, they're great... I just finished installing my Force II system today ( http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=810560 ), and I love em'...
I had generic 40 series flowmaster mufflers on my last Vette for only a day as the resonance killed me and my passenger... With the entire cat back system designed for that car (92-96 Vette), the resonance isn't there at all...
Again not sure about long tubes, but if you kept the center resonator it might help with inside the car sound... I know mine is quite pleasant to drive now...
The only drawback is accellerated clutch and trans synchro wear as I find myself downshifting to slow down now rather than just using the brakes... :D
I put a force 2 system for a LT1 on a 90 L98 and am very happy with it. With stock exhaust manifolds and no cats, I do not have a resonance problem.
Last week I made a 4 hour trip and tire noise was louder than the exhaust in 6th gear at 65 to 70 (used to be my resonance peak). With the stock exhaust system I used to carry earplugs for a long trip, not any more.
Sounded so great under acceleration and deceleration when I first got it on I was speeding up and slowing down just to hear it. :steering:
I have a Flowmaster Force II cat-back, EM longtubes, and Dynatech 3" PowerCats on my car, and it sounds really powerful. Not too loud, not too quiet, and very little interior resonance.

I think your exhaust guy was just lazy. Forum member JayH has 50's on his 95. They obviously fit, but they probably took a little more work than an average muffler install.
I had the 50 series on my 87, and they had a good :skep: sound outside and little to no resonance inside. I had 40 series on this 88, and they sound greeeeeeeeeeeat :) outside. Inside , the resonance is much too loud :( at low speeds. Headers would be worse.
50 series (Force II) here. I love mine. Excellent at speed or at WOT, but could be louder at idle (though I don't think anything is as deep as them at idle). That will change with the TPIS headers I'm getting.

I wonder if it has to do with the routing of the 3" pipe. Not much room to turn that pipe into a muffler. I pulled one out of the box and held it in place, I knew then it would require some magic if it was possible. But then again, I caught him right after lunch, perhaps in a food coma.
Brian, check your email I'm going to try and send the video of the super 40. Got it down to 6MB and could go smaller.
Nathan, good advice on the OS, the XP Movie maker is very easy and lets me pick my file size.
