Hi all out there , my 87 vette does more and more often go in to Limp Home mode ..and especially just after staring during warm up when driving with low rpm and low RPM. Just have to stop for 15 sek and then after start up code gone. But comes on every day now.
Modifieed engine ..383, 50 or 52mm trottelbody TPIS 383motor with TPIS prom vers 5 i think.
It has not been this way before.
Any ideas where to start locking...Hakan in SWEDEN
My 87 had a such a spell tossing the same code pretty much every day... replace both the MAF relays (same part) on the firewall behind the battery. This was the cause of my failure.
If that doesn't help Scrop might be right and you might need a new ECM. But replace the cheap mechanical parts first because mechanical parts almost always fail before electrical ones...
Thanks guys , But what are those relays ..std 12 volt stuff ..get them at NAPA or special Chevy made. As Im in Scandinavia I got to ask some friend over there to get them for me an send them.
Any of the our automotive stores over here should have them. Chevy, NAPA, Autozone, Pepboys. They should be about $14 USD each if I remember right. An '87 uses two of the same relay and part # for both functions. Other years used differen relays for each one.
I've been living with the same thing for two years. EVERYTHING has been replaced. I think it is the MAF upper limit set in the chip. I am planning on having that raised. Someone else had posted that as the fix for the same problem.
