I have the procedure down I believe for adjusting timing except if the car should be warmed up and can the timing adjustment be made while the car is running ???
One last thing, I checked the timing and found it to be off the scale going to the left (before) direction on timing indicator. Its not running great but no pinging on nothing that would really alert you to a problem. Just curious how it can be so off without major symptoms?????
Re: Quick Timing Question on 91 Vert (merplastic91)
Thanks Aaron! All set now. Started at 8 with no knocking so after a quick test drive I went to 10 with still no apparent knocking. I will test drive it and see how it does.
Re: Quick Timing Question on 91 Vert (merplastic91)
You very likely won't HEAR any knocking or pinging.
The only way to REALLY tell is to log the data and check for Knock Counts and Spark Retard.
You just CANNOT use hearing as a diagnostic tool on these engines anymore.
If you're data logging, please disregard the above message.
I had a problem getting my timing set correctly also.
I believe the ESC plug is the Tan wire coming off of the wire bundle out of the computer, one of the local mechs unplugged it and had no problem getting it to 6 DBTC. with the plug connected it was trying to correct itself as the change was being made and would jump 2-3 degrees..
I hope he did it right.. it seems to be running much better.
