My 96 vette is going nuts. The tachometer is jumping wildly and the L C D is flickering on and off sporadically. The car starts fine. Some time ago it was giving me battery problems. The positive battery cable has a continuous
build-up of corrosion. I have a new GM cable but have not yet installed due to
head has been rounded on exsisting cable. Is the cable causing the problem.
I forgot to mention when L C D goes out a check electrical system light flashes.
You need to see NAPA and get 2 battery terminal bolt conectors remove your old battery bolts and install new ones ,clean the terminals with a wire brush and put a penny on top of the battery and the corrosion will colect onto the penny. :auto:
You have battery connection problems. Remove both battery cables (neg first) and clean both the cable lugs and the battery posts and buy the larger 5/8" hex brass terminal bolts from a parts store and replace the cables (neg last).
My car did some very funny things with the gauges before and it turned out to be the ECM. Since you know you've got corrosion issues though that's a great place to start and see if the trouble goes away.
I will try the cleaning and larger brass hex head bolts. Seems like the problem
started after the car had not been driven for several weeks over the winter.
I really appreciate all the help thank you.
