Bad piston ring?
Ok sorry this is not a question about the Vette, its about my beater...I have a 4cyl 89 Celica I have had for 2 years. One of the spark plugs has oil on it. It was like that 2 years ago when I changed the plugs, and about 6 months ago I changed the plugs again and still the same problem;however it runs fine and the cylinder is not dead. It does use maybe half a quart of oil a week( it doesn't have a leak)
I am assuming the piston ring is bad and the oil is burning past the ring....I don't have money for a rebuild, is there other way this can be fixed, or at least improve it enough to keep the problem from getting worse?
Thanks
another less scientific way is to observe what is going on out the tailpipe. If some puffs of smoke (and the smell of oil) exits upon start-up (after sitting for a good while, like overnight), you probably have bad valve seals. If a blue hazy smokestream more continuously exits upon running the engine, then its more likey to be your rings.
