Having been out of Corvettes for almost 20 years, when I bought my 94 coupe, one of the things I noticed was it seemed to have a very large turning radius, compared to my previous Corvettes ( 57, 64, 67 and 69). Is this true, or did I just get use to Hondas? Comments?
:steering:
Re: C4 does it have a large turning radius? (65Z01)
The only reason I can thing for this is the Corvette has wide front tires compared to the vast majority of the vehicles on the road... Does that seem right?
My first U-turn in a C4 years ago was quite an eye opening experience, realizing I was not going to make it, I punched the gas to get that rear around before I either nailed the curb or got pasted by a semi
Re: C4 does it have a large turning radius? (Vintagevetter)
The extremely wide tires would be my guess as well. Lock to lock the wheels just don't actually turn that much if you compare them to say my Dad's f-150 which will turn the wheels almost completely sideways.
As is stated above, nail the gas and you'll cut down on the turning radius. :D
Re: C4 does it have a large turning radius? (USAsOnlyWay)
I can see why we have such bad turning radius because high speed cars don't need to turn much at high speeds for the car to turn alot and at speed if you just crank the wheel on a vette the wheels only turn a certain degree so it is less likely to wipe out or flip over.
Re: C4 does it have a large turning radius? (jp2002ls1)
I think the problem is more related to the fact that there just plain is not much room for the front wheels to move because of their width and the depth of the wheel wells.
Re: C4 does it have a large turning radius? (Vintagevetter)
Actually, C4's can have a very tight turning radius. I do it all the time in tight parking lots. Crank the wheel all the way over in one direction and nail the throttle. You'll see what I mean.
