My fuell pump died on me a couple of days ago. I replaced the pump, strainer and fuell filter. Drove fine untill the tank got down to 1/4 of a tank and the car seemed like it had a miss or a fuell delivery problem( car would shake, alot ) Filled the tank up. High test like always, and the car ran great. Now wile shifting into 2nd/ 3rd around 4k, 5k the car seems to have a slight stumble. Not nearly as close as before, but its there.
Could it be a bad fuell pump or do you think it will go away? And for those who have replaced the pump; The rubber around the pump, do you need it, or is it for sound? I left it off because the new pump didn't come with one.
You should instal a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and tape the gauge to the windshield, then take the car for a ride. You'll be able to see if the pump is the cause because the pressure will fall off if it is.
I'd bet on some water in the tank-try some Heat, or some other additive to get rid of water in tank-since water settles to the bottom
Yes this makes :bb because it was sort of raining out when I put the new fuell pump in. 1st I covered the hole in the top of the tank when I was insalling the pump on the sending unit. I put the sending unit in then saw the pick up screen on the work bench, so the 2nd time of removal it was uncovered.
This would make sence why it was running bad when the tank got lower. And why its getting better.
 me Thanks
