Damn today i was suppose to get my 89 corvette back after a month and a half without it. My mechanic started it up and the idle was off, well i knew that i would need to adjust the tps setting and iac, but than the mechanic told me the engine turned off and that there was a vacuum leak in the gaskets provided with the superram. He used two tubes of black rtv where indicated and let it set longer than 24 hours. So now he has to take the whole thing apart again and use some Permatex Hylomar, which he would have used when he first put it together but there was a note from lingenfelter saying not to use any sealants. So he thought the gaskets would hold, but nope it started leaking. This is very frustrating :mad

Re: Vacuum leak with my superram (calebchoson)
I feel your pain. I just finished my SR install this past week. One of the only things that DIDN'T go wrong was I actually had no vacuum leaks. I used Permatex Black with the gaskets and it worked just fine. How much are you paying a mechanic to do this for you? While re-doing the plenum is time consuming, you could easily do it yourself and save some money. Just an idea.
Well actually my mechanic will probably charge me 1000 or more dollars but i have 655 dollars upfront. He told me he is not going to charge me for this situation that occured because if he was i would be sweating bullets. :banghead: I need my car back :auto:
Kinda depends on the size of the tubes here, don't you think guys :nono: Let's not rile this poor fella up anymore than he is already. He'll soon learn that he needs to come here first.
If the intake is leaking, look for THE RIGHT STUFF and take it to your mechanic. Do a search on the forum and get the right proceedure's. I think there has been a dicussion of this in the last few days. Poke around a little :seeya
