Okay this one is for all you engine gurus out there. I have a Donovan aluminum 400 fetherlite engine block. It was made for plate style motor mounts. I wouldn't mind putting this in my vette but I want to use the stock mounts. Is there a way to use this block in my car? I was thinking about just having a shop weld new mounts onto the block. The other problem I am considering is that I know that plate mounts add a lot of strength to the block. Since it was made for plate mounts if I use normal mounts will I twist it? I don't plan on building anything crazy out of this. Just a good street engine.
Good questions! I'd be talking to Donovin. Motor plates would be a ***** in a stock configuration, street, C4. Even if the block was free, you might not be able to afford this. Good luck, and...
I'd give 'em a call to get the specifics on this. I'd sure hate for you to hurt the block by welding in a place that wasn't designed to take the stress.
Just another thought: Some years ago I installed a 468 BB Chevy in a Buick SkyHawk for the street. It used plates mounted to the front of the BB. Car was a balst to drive, but a lot of engine vibration is transmitted into the car using those front plates.
Well thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll try and get a hold of Donovan and see what they say. I'm sure there just going to tell me it won't work so they can try and get a sale out of me but I'll try anyway.
well I found out on there web site that all the blocks are cast the same way and that my block is the same as any other except the motor mount spots are removed. So I guess I can have a shop weld ones on for me. I guess the only thing I have to figure out now is how to convert it to wet sump oiling.
