Default Dash vent question

I just ordered this passenger side dash vent from Eckler's(and paid more for shipping than the part): http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...PD0AP8R94T73P3

Does this vent just snap into place or do I need to use some sort of adhesive? When I bought the Corvette, this vent was broken and kind of held in place with a zip tie and there is some sticky stuff behind it. I'm not sure if this adhesive is from the factory or something the owner put on because it was broken. I am just trying to figure this out before the part arrives so I'll have everything I need for a quick installation.

Thanks for the help,

Wes

It snaps in. The new one will have four tabs that are probably broken off your old one.

It is a really tight fit so it seems like it will be easy to break the new ones off...

Let me know if the finish on your new one matches your original parts. I bought one of these from gmpartsdirect and the finish is a rough matte hard finish, nothing like the original finish.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know how the the part looks when I get it. I'm kind of worried that it won't match up now but hopefully Eckler's wouldn't sell a part unless it matches.

It's a snap fit & the top goes in first. If you have to remove it, pry on the bottom with a small screwdriver, very carefully. :steering:

Well, I got the vent in from Eckler's and the finish does not match perfectly. It's an original GM part made for '94-'96 vettes so I have no idea why it doesn't match. It does not look bad or out of place(and certainly better than the broken one) so I'm just going to leave it in.

I do have another vent issue, though. The larger vent that that this small vent goes into is rattling. What is the best way to remove this larger vent so that I can try to fix the rattle? I'm just trying to be cautious and not break anything.

Thanks,

Wes

Just pry out the louvered part you replaced from the bottom. There are a couple of 7 mm screws, not sure about the size, that once out will allow you to remove the vents. Be careful they are brittle.
