the coating helps both in protection against early rust as well as temp reductions. its very well worth it :yesnod: to maximize this effect, get them
coated internally as well.

Re: Coated Headers (vsocks)
Are the coated headers really worth the money...About double the cost, just want to be sure. Give me your opinions!
I got mine coated locally. Still pretty rough on the price. Im glad about the rust issues and they do run cooler. I would do it again but if I was really, really on a budget it wouldn't be a priority for me.

Re: Coated Headers (vsocks)
Well If I was buying hedman's I wouldn't get them coated. Then again I wouldn't buy Hedman's. :nono: If you go this route don't worry about them getting coated just throw them away in a few years after they get rusty and buy some more.
Why nolt Hedman? I heard they were good and I want the 1 5/8 tubing for my 84. The Elite headers are made of 14ga tubes and 3/8" flanges I believe. What headers do you recommend?
I've had TPIS full length headers for about 3 years and they still look brand new. The only problem I have with them is spark plug clearance on AFR heads, but when I had the stock heads they fit fine. I can't tell you about long term rust benifits, but so far so good for me, and they really do cool off fast.
What size primaries are the TPIS. And coated for $750, includes new front Y pipe? Complete bolt in installation? I don't need emmisions but there is no cost difference with or without.

Well here's what the ol :beatdeadhorse: header problem is. I have heard nothing but bad things about the quality of Hedman's. They are a poor fit and somtime's even come warped from the factory. Problem then becomes for the 1 5/8 headers your next step is a bunch of money if your not getting headmans.
I went with Hooker's which are 1 3/4. Price was pretty good and the quality was fine. Now CFI-EFI is going to say I made a grave error and I am destined to never having low end torque again. I disagree. My car feels great crusing around in high gear in town traffic and feel way faster at WOT. (Dyno proven results coming soon but they are available elsewhere)
Its really your choice. I didn't feel comfertable with the horrer stories I heard about the Hedmans. I also didn't want to spend the money to get exotic muscle headers. I went with Hooker and I am very happy with them.
I can tell you that some people are very happy with their Hedman's headers too! :yesnod:

The TPIS headers I have seen were 1 3/4 primaries.
Check with Headman to see if they are coated both inside and out. I know that Hooker (too big) are only coated on the outside. I don't know about any others. The cost of coating is a little hard to swallow at the time of purchase, but you'll be much happier in the long run. A factory paint job won't last around the block, and the most carefully prepped and carefully painted headers won't hold up much longer. Nothing can duplicate the insulating factor of a coating. There is a horsepower or two in the coatings, but I won't go into that, here. Besides, it's minimal. For appearance, longevity, and heat retention, spring for the coating.
vsocks, the TPIS 1 3/4" LT headers are coated in/out but the included front Y is not coated at all.
I have ceramic coated (in/out) headers on the IROC for 6yrs and they are just starting to show some external flaking along with a leak in the coated front Y. They are the Edelbrock TES and I'm not sure which coating is used on them.
If you are interested in Hookers.
Call jethot. They offer new headers that they coat insde and out for a good price.
I have the Hookers from Jet Hot and they look great, sound great , and provide a small increase in HP. One advantage in buying from JetHot is if there is a problem either in the coating or fit, you are dealing with one company and their customer relations is great.

Re: Coated Headers (vsocks)
What's your money worth socks...
If you're asking is there an advantage to coating in ceramic for headers...
yes...
All top racing teams do coat their stuff because of temp mitigation and life of the base metal.
You gonna race... it'll keep your under hood temps lower... if you're not... it'll keep your under hood temps lower...
If you race the higher temps are spit down the pipes more easily without transfer to other components and you don't have to worry about rust hardly at all... If you don't race they'll look great, clean-up with nearly anything, hardly ever rust through the life of the car, keep your car's engine bay cooler, and make the cats work more effectively because of the higher temps being delivered to the platinum...
The header's interior will recieve a slight modification of flow with the coating from the original flow also... but you need a good base header flow to match the flow out the ports first before you think about the coatings... unless you're just interested in the looks and the lower temps of coarse...
