It's almost hot enough down in the footwell to melt my sandals. Will wrapping the headers all the way up through the collectors help this situation? Any other suggestions? Next time I need to drop the tranny, I will apply heat shield too.

Are your headers coated inside & out?
I had the same problem last year, the undercoating was melting. This past year, I had my headers jethot coated inside and out and the difference is night & day.
I would not recommend wrapping. It will illeminate any warranty on the headers and retains the moisture and heat whereby the headers will disentegrate.

Hmmm. I purchased the headers and they said they were "coated". Guess I should try and find out if it is inside and or outside. Does Hooker coat them from the factory? They were a dull finish and when I blew a radiator hose, it turned them green. It seems they have some coating on them.

If you got the headers direct from hooker they should have been a fairly bright silver color, should look like this
When I ordered my headers I got them from Speed Demon Motorsports, they were coated inside and out by a company they do business with. They are not a shiny finish but it seems to be an extremely durable finish, I've been very happy with them.
On the underside they've got some light surface rust but nothing real bad considering I've had them for at least 2 years now and I drive my car year round, including in the snow and salt.

I wrapped my header collectors and pipes. I also wrapped my Derale Oil cooler hoses. I then put heat shield under the carpet, but I only did the drive's side, since I don't regularly carry a passenger.
They all helped some, just not as good as I'd hoped for when the car is sitting still, like being caught in traffic.
It's only during the hot Texas summer months that I'm bothered. If I find I can't live with it this summer, my next plan is to fashion a metal heat shield to be attached between the header and the exterior of the floor pan and up the firewall probably as far as the bottom of the brake booster.
I have 2149's also but no cats. I never have any kind of heat issues, but I did wrap them with the fiberglass wrap from thermo tec. After I unwrapped them a few months later, the coating was bubbling and compromised.
I get into my engine alot and the wrap became soiled with oils.
I unwrapped the headers because

How ' bout the heat wrap with the adhesive to put up against the floorboard? Will the adhesive stick with the heat? It seems to really come if after WOT runs.

I purchased some reflective insulating mat that is the same stuff that is used to wrap around a starter to protect it from header heat. I took that mat and glued it to the tunnel area where the pipes pass by and that took care of my heating problems. I used RTV to glue it down with and its been on there since 1996 :)
