Default wiper problems

When I turn on my wipers, they both jerk up maybe a couple inches, then back down instead of the full range of motion. They'll continually attempt to wipe, but they only go up a couple inches! What could cause this, and how do I fix it?

Not sure if its important, but its an 85.

Thanks guys!

You need to pull the inspection plate off the wiper motor housing to see what's going on in there.

There are two screws used to adjust wiper sweep but I didn't get the chance to watch Gordon Killebrew when he adjusted my wipers. So can not help on how to do the adjustment except to say that the final sweep adjustment is made with the wipers at max. speed.

Mine did the same thing. The factory manual lists common wiper problems and their most likely causes. For "wipers cycle in and out of park position" the probable cause is a faulty park switch. That's what was causing mine to do that.

The park switch is a small part inside the wiper motor. It's available separately for about $38, and it's fairly easy to replace. You get to it by removing the black plastic wiper motor cover. Replace your park switch, and your problems should be solved!

When you take the black plastic cover off the wiper motor, the park switch is a square looking thing with copper wire windings held in place by one 7mm(?) hex head screw. You won't be able to tell it's bad just by looking at it. When you remove it, pay careful attention to how all the parts go together.
