Apparently this moisture problem I am having with my opti is fairly common. Can't or couldn't they find a better way of sealing this thing???? WTF! :mad

Yeah they did... in '95. You can convert but it involves changing the timing cover, cam pin and distributor. I think though, there's also a way to vent the earlier distributor. Someone will know.
They obviously know it is a problem or they wouldn't have fixed it in 95 any decent self-respecting company would recall that. These are not exactly cavaliers that we are driving, chevy should really be more on the up and up with this stuff.

I laughed when I read this...I agree, but you know what???
The Corvette can be considered a Glorified Cavalier. Why?I worked as a GM tech in the 90s and the relays, wire harness, fuel injection.brake parts and hoses, fuel lines, pumps, ecm, interior screws, seats, parts, etc etc are not any different than a standard GM car.Just think ac delco and they all have a similar construction and quality build.Im sure I left out a bunch of stuff.I dont think the Corvette got special EFI parts that were better design or build than other fleet cars.
Mine was dead at 25,000 miles. On the new opti I bought the upgraded 95-96 cap and installed an air inlet (filtered air coming from a filter sticking inside the cars interior) and another hose with an air vacuum source off the PCV.
I'm gonna tell you that the opti isn't nearly so fragile as people will make it out to be. Now why you would every consider washing down a computer controlled engine with a water hose is beyond me.

Damn!!! I knew, I should have just bought a Cavalier, put on some spoilers and some chromies. and been done with it. :D
If you aren't getting any trouble-codes related to the low-res or high-res opti-spark pulses, just get a Delteq multi-coil ignition system and put it in place. In about an hour, you are running again without the most troublesome part (the high voltage section) of the Opti-Spark.
Take a look at the web site. The Opti normaly fails on the high voltage side (Cap/Rotor) and the Delteq system eliminates this by going to a coil pack system with one coil for every two cyl. Here is a pic of mine when I was installing it.

Stop your whine and bbitchin. Sell your vette and get your $ back go buy some *** car that is far more reliable and that is what you are looking for. American car are so bad and why are you bothering with it. I say junk it and get out of your misery. My .02 for you.
I just replaced my opti last week. They have changed them a little bit. My 92 had a cheap foam gasket between the cap and opti that was deteriated beyond belief, this was factory. Thats why it's so easy to get moisture inside. The new opti ($299) has a rubber seal. I think this will solve most problems. But it's to late to repair the bad rap they've gotten. :chevy
