If you get rid of your stock computer and use the gen 6 what do you do with the wires that use to run of the stock computer and magically disappear into the underside of your dash. I am switching over a 92, getting rid of the lt1, putting in a regular distributored v8 and using accel's Gen 6. Anyone done this before.
Do you really want to do a GEN6? With the new GEN7 stuff available that is a light year ahead in technology over the old GEN6 systems there is no reason to even consider the GEN6 unless you already own one.
However to answer your question, you can purchase a harness that interfaces the DFI system on top of the stock ECM which keeps the stock ECM in place and also keeps all of the dash functionality intact. If you do indeed have a 92 Vette the ECM is located directly above the battery on the drivers side under the hood. If you are interested in a DFI system contact me off list. I can help you out with the wiring.
tj, does Gen VII have a piggyback harness available for 86-88 with the digidash and '165 ECM?
You can get this from Fast Track Performance, http://www.fasttrackperformance.com. The harness can be made to interface with either the ACCEL or FAST ECUs.
Scorp, Ron is correct.....an interface box is available. It makes for a very clean setup. Your old ECM stays in place and is connected to the "box" a short harness connects between the "box" and the ACCEL/FAST ECU and the factory harness connects to the "box" as well. All the original sensors.TCC, and knock system is retained as is complete dash functionality.
But all of this does not come cheap. The interface is priced at $699 from FTP. If you have a later car with the ECM mounted under the hood using the LT1 or 12227727 ECM the interface harness is a splice in harness that costs about $399.
On my 85 I just removed the stock ecm and used a adapter to plug the stock wire harness to the accel gen. 6.........I just lost the instant gas mileage and the 4+3 trans overdrive and that I hot wired to a switch(thanks scorp....grounding it did the trick....I like it better...its faster)...but the gen.6 is a lot of work and study to tune..I think it will take all summer....I've been pretty frustrated a couple of times because I'm reinventing the wheel..no one knows the gen. 6 system.....I'm happy with it now that its running good but if I had it to do over I'd go gen.7 ......more tuning support.....if you have the gen.6 already go for it....... by the way tom, it was the map that was causing my stalling...it doesn't like the superram intake, big cam and supercharger.....zero'ed the table up to .6 and problem went away...it was flooding me out, you were right on that count...thanks
Re: Some accel Gen 6 questions? (lead foot 85 vet)
Cool I am glad to hear I was able to help out. I tuned a 447 CID Small block sometime ago with a nasty solid roller cam, and a SR manifold. It went well after some extensive tuning. It to had a bad spot in the map that I had to tune out.
