just finished. simple install and i did it after a looong day of work. took my time and figured it out. easy enough. didnt even remove the front tires. had to on the back tho. also had to wrap some electrical tape round the rear bottom mount to thicken it up a bit. well worth the change. they have 12 settings and so far, my stock setup feels about like a3 or 4. #12 feels like a go kart. but handles like mad. this thing can slalom like nobody's business now i bet. cant wait to get it to a track. oh yea the look cool too. nice machined aluminum. setting #1 feels like a cadillac so if i hear complaints from my gf i'll just turn em down when we're crusing. i love them tho. money well spent in my book. also, i have four origional bilsteins available. pass rear was busted but i would think all are rebuildable. make me an offer. for those with the money, go buy em. i love it. :flag
Great shocks, I've had two sets now
I only ran it on the road once at 12, killed my neck the next day from the harshness, but was fun. I've found 8 or 9 is best for AutoX, anything higher and its actually too stiff.
i don't think the electrical tape will hold up, you can order a t-bar from summit that fits in there like it should... you should double check but i think the part number is HAL lwr-300.

I agree about the e-tape; replace it with a metal bushing ASAP. Call HALshocks and tell them about this; they should supply the correct parts to make their units fit correctly. The money you spent on those QA-1's should entitle you to a PERFECT fit!
Interesting that the QA-1 can be adjusted softer than the stock units.
After debating over QA-1 vs. KONI Sports, I went with the KONI's and found that the Full Soft setting on them was harder than either the stock Bilsteins or the Edelbrocks. But, even on Full Soft, they are awesome shocks. If you like your QA-1's as much as I like the KONI's (and it appears that you do), you will be a happy driver for a long time.
I'll say this; the QA-1's look SO much tricker than the KONI's, its not funny!

Re: got my QA1's on tonight (code5coupe)
I love my QA1's
On the street I run them about 4
at an autocross no greater than 10, if it's to stiff it will be like having no suspension.
At the drags I set them at 1, great for weight transfer!
Oh just read about the electrical tape, not good. For the rears I needed to go buy a couple washers. Then they mount up perfectly. The mounts are not as wide as stock. I called QA1 about it, that was exactly what you were suppose to do.
ok guys i appreciate the input. yea the tape is temporary till i can figure out what to do. i know i need some washers to space it out on the shaft. but the shaft is still too small. will QA1 send me a set of bushings or will i have to buy em or what? or do they send a complete new bolt thing that it goes on? thanks for the help and keep it comin. oh, i scared the crap outta one of my friends last night when i took him for a ride. afterwards he got in his brand new GT Mushclang and drove off. i saw him today and he said, " man when i drove off after that, my car felt like an old V6 pickup. i gotta fix that." lol
ok i'm currently on the phone with a QA1 dude and he's trying to help out. says i need to measure the size of the stud on my car. but i cant now. and i gave him that part number and he said that's a T bar which is something i dont need. so where does this t bar go? and does anyone else have part numbers that may help? thanks
yea i got those, that is the shock part numbers. i need the part number for some new studs or spacers for the rears. the bushing on the stock shock is longer and thinner than on the QA1 peice. i cant get them to send me what i need and am getting pissed. tomorrow a dirty phone call will be made if i dont get satisfaction. $588 is too much to not fit perfect.
Yeah, you don't need a T-bar. You do need washers for all installs, but QA1 knows this, they really should include it in the instructions, but if you call, they know.
I'm thinking you got the wrong set of shocks, or someone had switched the mount on your car, because the size shouldn't be an issue, just the thinner mount which requires a couple washers so you compress the bushing.
HAL-SS110SDM these are for the stud ends ( I have coilovers)
HAL-UPR350 these are for the t-bars which would be needed on the front bottom lower contorl arms.
I'm usinging the 4558 coilover shocks which required removing and adding the shaft for the tops on all 4 shocks.. then the two t bars on the front bottoms. The bottom rear shocks the bushings they used fit mine fine, they also had included a second set of bushing inserts. I as well used washers to align the bottoms of my shocks, but again I was dealing with coil over clearance issues.
I hope perhaps the part numbers help, I order through Summit racing...
Here is what I had to order, if you are not usnig coilovers then disregard
Qty Part number desc.
002 HAL-10-250 250# springs
004 HAL-SS110SDM Studs for top of all 4 shocks
004 HAL-DR4855P shocks
002 HAL-UPR350 T-Bars for front bottom shock mounts
002 HAL-10-350 350# springs
001 HAL-T114W spring adjustment tool

Brian, what springs are you running on the street?
is there anyway that someone could post a pic of some of these part numbers? my car had the stock bielsteins so i'm sure it hadnt been tampered with. all i need is either a sleeve that fits inside the bushin on the QA1 and over a 5/8 shaft or a new shaft that bolts into my cars stock spot. thanks for the help guys and keep it comin.
I received mine this week and I will install them soon. I'm not sure I understand what's wrong and I don't wanna find out when it's too late. What year car are you installing them onto? Mine is an 89. Are they any dust covers for these things? I'd hate to install them without them!
mine had no dust covers. the problem i'm having is that the rear shocks' bushing has a hole in it that is too big for the shaft it mounts on. hope yours doesnt have the same prob, but on the same note,, wish mine could get fixed. customer service sucks from QA1. that's official now.

Re: got my QA1's on tonight (ninetyfivevette)
I can't seem to figure out what you're describing for the life of me. I just installed my QA1's as I got them and everything is fine
Maybe I missed something! Can you post a picture for me?
He needs bushings for the lower mount of the rear shocks.
The stud on the car's rear lower suspension (where the shock mounts) is smaller in diameter than the hole in the lower shock eye.
Again....HAL should have provided these with the shocks!! It is unacceptable that they did not, and they should fix this problem quickly and without cost to the customer.
you are right larry, i see in the second pic that there are two bushings with that kit. those are what i need. and i'll be in good shape. again i'll call qa1 thanks guys.
