LT1Vetteguy78,
Have you visited the shop since you dropped it off? If not, do it ASAP. I just went a YEAR getting a motor back together. Stuff you never think of happening, happens.
You need to expect a couple of small problems, but learn as much as you can as quickly as you can so this guy doesn't BS you. Search the boards for dyno graphs of other stock LT1/ATI and be familiar with the curve, learn what A/F ratio it should be running (both safe and aggressive) when tuned on the dyno.
I have not been up there no, but a guy at work today who sits next to me built a 39 ford, and he told me i should go up there to the shop too...I think i might do that tommorow, i guess its a good idea....I am defenitly gonna give them a chance, i know they do good work...but he made it seem like the car was going to be in and out, if i knew it was to be this much downtime i would just did the dam stroker over the winter..He told me 1 week tops with 12 hours install time...and he told me today..they put over 30 hours already into the car.....But like i said before, he said " i'm not going to nail you for all those hours, but i'm gonna need alittle more out of you"...He is already charging me 1200 for the install and 300 for the Dyno time and tuning....<shrug>ATI claims an 8-10 hour install, but i am also getting a custom chip and Autometer gauges on the Driver Side Pillar....Right now the instal receipt says 6250 without the custom chip and auto meter and the extra hours he is charging me for.......Who knows how much this will end up costing me...i better get atleast 400rwhp outta this, else ima be pissed off
I would show up unannounced, and bring a camera. Ask what isnt fitting, and what needed custom fabrication. Have your camera visible so he knows you plan to take some pics. Maybe if he wasnt truthfull- he will change his tune. Otherwise the proof should be visible. Post the pics so we can see, Im sure someone has this can and can tell if the parts are modified or not.
Hmmmm... You can't say no one asked you why you wouldn't do this when your car's not being used in the winter
Seriously though, I hope it all works out.. This is giving me second thoughts on using this guy though.. If all he's done is CamAro's, that would make me a bit nervous too, it means your the Vette Guinea Pig, and I wouldn't want that position for all the Tea in China.
I feel for ya dude, this past week has been gorgeous.. Hopefully, it's all worth it, and you'll have your car BACK before the end of the summer
I actually called ATI today and spoke to a tech for awhile, he confirmed that Installing the Procharger on the LT1 is quite a job then the LT1 Camero...Like the guy doing me car, the tech said stuff about the fuel pump, air condition unit and radiator....He said its the most difficult install for their products, the LT1 Corvette engine....But he Also said...He has seen results ranging from 360rwhp on bone stock 0 mods.. to 800hp on mod'd engines....He said give the guy some time to get the install right.......I guess maybe i am being alil impatient...I hope it rains out till i get my car back
O by the way....He has done alot of Corvettes with the Procharger but they were Ls1's and L98's go figure
I think it'll be worth it in the end.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya, since all his experience is on CamAros and this is his first Vette job.
Didn't he tell you, before he did this, that he's a Vette specialty shop and he's done lots of these?? DEFINITELY go check on your car tomorrow and make sure he's not stroking you. Remind him this ain't no CamAro.
Yeah, he is doing a custom chip and is doing a complete Dyno Tuning
If this guy claims he is doing a custom chip for your 1994 LT1. You may want to find another tuner. Because the 94 PCM doesn't use a removable chip. You have to reprogram the PCM.
At the very least, you should ask what tuning eqipment he is using.
Bring your car to me I will do the install for you for $500. Give one day that is all I need. First time install might take a lot times. But I had my blower in and out at countless times. It call "EXPERIENCE"
Well I took a ride up to the shop today....They had my car on the lift....Its looked really good, that had it all installed...and running....they just needed to work on a few lil things...get the Autometers installed, do the Tuning, Do the reprogramming and it should be done By Wed.....There was alot of custom work they had to do they showed me everything....I'll hopefully get some pictures up on Wed....I got the Dyno Sheet hen they put my car on it...Here is what it looks like......Looks errr...i dunno you tell me.....269.6hp 297tq
seems like good numbers to me.... see my numbers in sig
Yeah, but he has... a supercharger.
I'd think that would nab him more than a few horses if the tune was spot-on. Deep down, I'm just hoping he gets some serious numbers for all the stress of letting somebody else tinker with his baby!
EDIT: okay, apparently the posted Dyno graph is of the car PRE supercharger anyway. Kind of threw me off- I thought that was the initial run with the supercharger installed!
Yeah hehe, these are pre installation...i should have the numbers up Wed with it installed and the custom programming done.....I'll be happy with 375 at the wheels, but my expectations are 390+
What would be wrong with teh a/f ratio to make it dip lke that on the dyno sheet..and how do i get that solved,..is it a big problem? does it make a diff in the hp/tq numbers?
