Default Help for a Newbie...Code 41

I have the car of my dreams - '92 LT1 Stock except for a K&N Air Filter - for 9 months now, and since US cars (and Corvettes!) are not so well known in France, I have been doing some maintenance by myself (thanks to this forum!!).

I've just finished a new paint job on the valve covers (removed and reinstalled...), and now the damned car won't start!!! ARRRRGH!

I've unplugged-replugged the engine harness connectors when I removed the valve covers, and now I get code 41 (Ignition Control Circuit Open?), and the car won't start.

Where do I start, is it just a bad connection somewhere, or could I have messed with an electronic module?

Help please!!!!!

For 85-91 code 41 is a "cylinder select error" Check all connections at ECM.
Also, have you pulled your prom for anything?? An improperly installed prom will throw a code 41
Now for 1992-93 code 41 is EST ..Check wiring in between ignition module and ECM..May need to replce one or both.

Thanks...By the way I forgot to disconnect the battery when I removed the alternator, and a small spark happened (yes I know...Stupid me!!!!), may it be the source of my problem?

Do you know where I can find (on the Web?) wiring or harness schemes, to know which wires to check?

And is there a way to check for a faulty ignition module, before thinking of the ECM? (I didn't touch anything there...)

Sounds to me like you need to check all of your wiring again. Most of the time you just left something unpluged or in the wrong order. You should invest in a set of factory service manuals. Have all of the code listing and places to check/diagnosis.

Yeah you're right, manuals are a must...
Would you advise Chilton's or Hayne's?

Helms prints the "factory" manual for Chevrolet. You can order your own at
http://www.helminc.com

It wouldn't hurt to have others, but if you're only going to have one, get the authority.

RACE ON!!!

Yesssss! Checked a few connectors, the one on the ignition module wasn't plugged correctly....

... IT'S WORKING AGAIN......

Anyway I'll get the manuals.

This was my first post to the forum, and I really enjoyed it! I think it is a great source for info, especially in a country like France where people know nothing about Corvettes....

Thanks to all !!!

I'm glad we could help you out..It's refreshing to get a report back from someone and some appreciation..So often people on here get their fix and dont bother to report back and or give thanks. It's nice

Ah! I knew someone couldn't resist to ask this question!!!

Well it's the same problem, most Frenchmen don't know anything about Vettes, and they don't know a lot about Americans neither... And its easy to "misjudge" someone you don't really know (it works both ways).

In fact I think we are fond of the US, but don't like to admit it...

And of course there are some political aspects right now that don't make it easy...
But I'm not gonna get into this here.... Maybe a subject for another forum!!!
